Washer does not last, will need repairs early

I™€™ve only had the washer a few years and the lid lock sensor already does not work and won™€™t allow me to start a cycle. When I had looked at reviews before buying they had said the washer would last 10-14 years but I™€™ve only had it for 6 and it™€™s already going to need expensive repairs. I called GE and was told the 10 year warranty does not cover faulty lid locks. Very disappointed and will look into purchasing from a different brand next time.

Worst purchase we have made. This machine cannot handle large loads, even though I'm careful not to overfill it and always place clothes in evenly. The dispenser does not work well and I often find streaks from fabric softener. I expected better from GE, after only 6 years, it has begun to leak from the top and start and spin on its own. After research I now know this is a common known issue and the valve has to be replaced. I have taken care of this washer, and with only two people in our house hold it has not been subjected to heavy use. I am extremely disappointed with this washer and would not recommend it to others.

Squeaking rust bucket

Bought this machine with a squeak on the top left corner. Prior to my warranty expiring, I called the warranty people. They told me it was a cosmetic problem and it's not covered. 2 1/2 years later, I start seeing rust around the bleach dispenser, I took the plastic insert out and noticed more rust. Now I know why it was squeaking. Unfortunately the warranty expired and they want to charge me over $300 for parts and labor or buy another GE washing machine for a slight discount. Their customer service ladies are RUDE and determined not to help you unless you spend more money. They don't stand by their machines. GE just wants more of your money. WARNING: DON'T BUY GE! You'll be sorry if you do.

Does not last long!

We have had this washer for about 5 years and it has all of a sudden stopped working. The spin cycle does not start, and there is no problem with the drain or the lid lock. It also will randomly turn on by itself and sound like it is draining with ™€œcanceled™€ scrolling across the screen. My guess is it™€™s the control board. At the cost of $300 something just for the replacement part we might as well get a new washer. Extremely disappointed is an understatement. A washing machine should not fail after 5 years. Do not purchase.

I have always had good luck with GE, my entire home is outfitted with GE appliances. This washing machine lasted 5 years, 3 months and completely stopped working. Lid lock and main control board were replaced with no success. I was advised to purchase a new machine, as the next steps to be taken would cost more than buying a new machine. Yes, I went with another GE Washing Machine, GTW585BSVWS, primarily so it would "match" my GE Dryer. I was also advised to write a review here, as I was told GE may reach out to me with some sort of refund. Probably not, but it can't hurt to try. It seems there is no product integrity anymore with most things, as we live in a wasteful, disposable world. Let's hope the new machine will outlive its predecessor.

Only lasted 5 to 6 years. Grey chunks developed as pieces of the basket. This indicates that the bottom of the basket is deteriorating. The basket has failed. Will cost more to repair than a replacement. Functional, does clean well, energy efficient but doesn™€™t last long making it wasteful in another way.

Since the original purchase of this product, I have found it lacking. It is impossible to know how much to add to the machine on most cycles. The main driving force behind this is the machine™€™s complete inability to load balance. I noticed it with towels, sheets, and regular clothes. It seems to be independent of what is placed inside, the amount of water added, or any extra rinse cycles. The only way to fix it, is to remove all of the items from the tub, and re-add them about a third back at a time. Keeping in mind that covers my bathroom floor from the dripping towels because it doesn™€™t spin the water out properly. The concept of rebalancing by wasting water is ridiculous (add water, agitate, try again and repeat.). If we're looking to decrease kilowatt usage, why would be increase our amount of water usage because this thing won™€™t load balance. No wonder it only was produced for a short period of time.

I don™€™t know if it actually completely functions correctly. I have yet to see a video of it working to compare mine to. It barely agitates the salesman knew nothing about it when we bought it we just needed one because our washer died. Hoping this one will be the one with the Jets that pushes the clothing around . It gets most clothing clean but we can not overload it. Some clothing still has powder spots from the detergent on them. Re wash etc,

O.M.G. I feel like this is my first "Grown-up, not hurting for money" washer. Never in my life have I had a washer that has buttons specifically made to take out stains such as blood, wine, and grass stains. The dispensing mechanism it's pretty cool and purposeful. It's nice when you can add whatever you need to and know that it's going to get dispensed and dispersed properly. I have top loader washing machines before but they usually have an agitator cuz I always thought that that cleaned clothes better but this one doesn't and it works so much better. And the amount of clothes that I can actually put into the washing machine is unreal it's capacity is huge. I swear I can fit 3 of my laundry bins in one load whereas my last one could ony fit one. Its a magic machine that uses less energy and actually cleans better. Oh, and it's pretty darn quiet as well. It doesn't bother me at all.

Like all the bad reviews, it does not spin correctly due to imbalances. Yes, I load properly around the impeller. No, I do not over load the machine. It is on level ground. I bought 5 years ago and have noticed this since then. Nothing I do helps with towels, sheets, or blankets. This does not occur with every load, just bulky single items every time. Towels are a hit and miss. The machine is moody and is clearly not the best design. Also, molds builds up in the detergent and softener drawer and encasement. I can clean the drawer by removing it, however not the encasement portion. This is hazardous to human health and I am shocked there was never a recall. Personally, the only help GE can provide is a rebate for my purchase that I can use to invest in another, more reasonable machine and get on with my life.

For the size of the washer I would™€™ve thought I™€™d have been able to load more laundry without any serious issues, but there is a very fine line between just right and overloading it, but when it does act up it doesn™€™t like to empty all the way out. I hate this thing. All the good parts of it are out done by the fact I CAN NOT wash sheets, comfortets, blankets, etc. with it. As soon as it tries to start the spin cycle if it is even slightly out of balance it stops completely and tries to "balance" but it NEVER balances. I have to sit here for at least an hour, EVERY SINGLE TIME, and baby it until I can accidently finally manually balance it. It would make so much more since if it would just start to spin abd when it starts going out of balance simply slow down and hold, giving it time for the water to drain and then slowly speed up until it goes out of balance then slow a hair, rinse and repeat. Instead it is USELESS and leaves me trying to figure out what to do with my sheets, etc. You owe me hours of my time and a new washing machine that actually works.

horrible product- spins off balance on most large loads of towels or comforters and end up having to do multiple drain spin cycles with trying to rebalance each time, then today, a load finished and i put it in to the dryer loaded up the washer for the next load and closed the lid and went to set the proper cycle and the control board went out and will not come back on. I did a quick search, and it turns out there are over 150 complaints on this page alone about broken lids during normal usage. Many with multiple replacements being no better. Then going to the lid replacement page there is over 50 complaints there as well. As of writing this the lid is sold out due to how many people have to replace it, and the replacement lid is 180 dollars while the machine is being sold for 480. For the cost of two lids, you can nearly purchase an entire new machine. DO NOT BUY

We have been GE purchasers for more than forty years for four properties. In addition to GE Profile ranges, ovens and dishwashers, GE washers and dryers have always been solid performers for us, and this top-loading washing machine has been an excellent performer, too, until the edge of the lid cracked apart for no apparent reason. The unit is just barely three years old, and this should NOT happen. We have had other GE appliances last for well over ten years with no problems... even though the GE warranty is one year, this broken lid should be replaced at no charge, at least send us the part so I can replace it myself. Horrible product, full of issues

I purchased the washer 4 yrs ago. Since the beginning, it has balancing issues. I called GE technician and he suggested using Deep Rinse cycle always which increases by water and electric bill. That was only part of the problem. The buttons stopped worked intermittently earlier this year and how has stopped working completed. The main control board is $312 without repair free. Its almost as costly as a new washer. Reading reviews, there are so many complains about the control board. STAY AWAY, NEVER BUY GE PRODUCTS

Horrible product. Had issues within first month. The drum keeps banging the casing and make horrible noise, stop working. When i called support, they just told me to use deep wash. After few yrs of dealing with this issue, the power button stopped working intermittently. The options keep changing automatically and it became very difficult to use it. I do not like the fact that each time you open the lid and close it again it adds more water. I also find that it doesn™€™t really clean my clothes as well as the old washer I had. But the worst part is I™€™m finding rust inside the barrel where the seam meets to connect it and it™€™s stained a few items.

If I could give it zero stars, I would haven™€™t even had the washer for 4 years and the balancing is terrible. Leaves my clothes soaking wet and there™€™s nothing that they can do about it because they don™€™t service my area and ™€œDon™€™t know why that could be happening™€ I wouldn™€™t recommend! Customer service wasn™€™t any help.

Balancing is terrible!

Machine balancing is terrible. Machine is a few years old and has never balanced properly. I have read same reviews along with GE response how to fix. Sorry but the fix does not work. Can™€™t wait for machine to completely break down so I can replace. Don™€™t buy!

Had this product 5 years only problem dirt buildup in softener container. Cleaned with Clorox wipes and a screw driver for very small pathway and good to go.
