There's Beauty In This Beast
Long Winded

Our previous gas range was included in the purchase of our home some 17 years back, and I do believe the previous owners made its purchase 10 years prior to our home sale. Some of the range's components were beginning to fail, and I saw no sense in throwing hard earned $$ into an appliance that had served its purpose for so long. Due to its age, it had many idiosyncrasies that forced us into a nightly routine of working around all those it had manifested, to the point of frustration and wonderment as to why we were putting up with all the nonsense. Nonsense, no longer!Enter the Frigidaire: My wife's and my first step was to do in-depth research online, and Frigidaire led the pact on positive consumer feedback. Our budget and space would not allow a range of commercial quality build that many of the all stainless hulks possess, however we did desire a range that was aesthetically pleasing, had the features that would fulfill ours needs as everyday "chefs", and had a respectable track record for reliability and customer service. Our previous range was a dinosaur with typical features of its day, which is another way of saying a basic four burner stovetop and oven, sans any features, plus the fact we had grown weary of its almond colored skin. (I do make that final comment with some trepidation, as I do not wish to be accused of Appliance Racism! Hey, in today's world, one never knows, right?)We recently remodeled our kitchen, and the black stainless exterior of this new range beautifully compliments the light gray cabinets; this is a very appealing appliance in the aesthetics department. I applaud the use of the heavy stovetop cast grates for a continuous level cooking surface over the five burners. (Hint, I have read complaints concerning rust developing on the grates. Hello... these are cast iron, no different than cast iron cookware, and if it's traditional protocol to season the cookware, I figured why not do likewise with the three grates? So I did... basted the grates with cooking oil, wiped down, and baked for 30 minutes @ 200, repeat on the wipe down, and have not had any problem with rust. However, I do maintain them with an occasional swipe of cooking oil if I find a spot of rust - a small inconvenience, IMHO. And... by the looks of the photos, it is touch up time :-) Frigidaire: if this is an accepted practice, may I suggest you include this in the Care and Maintenance chapter of the user manual. I did not find any reference to such). You will notice in the pics provided, a large enameled cast dutch oven, and it's modeling not just out of vanity, but for a reason - that being (with traditional stovetops), when filled with a delectable something or other, would take two adults, and a small child to lift this baby to another burner. Exaggeration, yes, but the point being that this particular piece of cookware, while practical in one sense, is unbelievably heavy empty, and these joined grates provide the convenience to slide that monster to another burner, rather than risk life or limb man/womanhandling the process. I bring this to the reader's attention, because it seems that this enameled cookware is very much in vogue, and a whole bunch of folk have now realized they may have a situation that was not foreseen. Frigidaire engineers to the rescue, eh?I segued, sorry...So, yes, this range fulfills our needs, now, and I'm sure as we progress with our cooking talents. Recently retired, and finished with several years of accrued "honey-do's", I now have quite a bit of time to pursue the culinary arts. We have upgraded our cookware and cutlery, so now I feel obligated to throw down 'n' walk the walk! We have yet to implement the convection feature of this appliance, but I have no doubt this feature's use will soon be the norm rather than the exception.I have rambled long enough, and I'm sure you've gleaned through all of this dreadfully long review, that we are absolutely thrilled with this Frigidaire, Model FGGF3036TD Gas Range.Good luck with your choice.More than 'nuff said.
